Avoid COVID-19 Cyber Scams!

Organizations are relying on telecommuting and teleworking in order to continue operations while simultaneously helping contain the spread of COVID-19. Phishing attacks-collections of personal and/or financial information from individuals posing as representatives of a legitimate organization-are popping up; as the COVID-19 virus continues to affect communities nationwide, scams in the form of charitable solicitations for those affected are being reported. Below are some tips for defending against cyber scams:

  • Do not click on links or attachments in suspicious emails
  • Do not provide personal or financial information via email
  • Do not respond to suspicious emails
  • Check frequently for updates to your software and operating system
  • Review requirements for creating, using and changing passwords used to access devices and networks.
  • Use government websites for information and updates about COVID-19
  • Alert your organization’s network administrators and other appropriate personnel immediately if you suspect security breaches.
  • Check the validity of any charity asking for donations (https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0074-giving-charity)

IT4Causes is Turning 5

RICHMOND,VA—IT’S BEEN 5 YEARS, AND WE’RE STILL KICKING!

Because many small businesses do not successfully make it to 5 years, we are delighted to announce that IT4Causes is still here, operating stronger than ever. When IT4Causes incorporated in October 2014, we did so to make a positive impact through IT solutions. Five years later, we could not be prouder of the tremendous support that we have been able to provide to local nonprofits! We are also extremely grateful for the ways we have, with the help of our outstanding networks, been able to engage and motivate community members to #MakeAnImpact.

Using our fractional IT Leadership model, IT4Causes will continue to provide strategic IT direction, tactical project execution, and now 24/7 help desk support to “for-purpose” organizations of all sizes in and around the local RVA area. And of course, we will continue to leverage our accumulated knowledge of IT for nonprofits to provide our clients with best-in-class products and solutions. As IT4Causes moves into its next year, we will continue our mission of providing exceptional IT support to other nonprofits. We will also continue to offer our services for a fraction of the cost of services in the commercial market.

Because we are very appreciative and fortunate to have such a large and involved volunteer base, we will continue our engagement with skilled industry professionals, student interns, and other volunteers, providing opportunities that enrich networks and build practical IT skills. We also hope to strengthen our partnerships with new clients like SOAR365, the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, and Capital Trees, as well as with our long-term partners such as Partnership For Families, Art180, and CA Human Services.

Our growth and successful operation have been made possible by the support of our amazing volunteers, our board of directors, our clients, interns, donors, and the many other stakeholders and supporters that are and have been rooting for IT4Causes. Join us at our #Tech4All4.0* to help us celebrate, show your support, and see just how big of an impact we are making!

*There are still a few sponsorship opportunities open for Tech4All 4.0, please contact us if you’d like to help us celebrate our past and support our future!

A THANK YOU gift to IT4Causes Supporters!

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for your support of IT4Causes in 2018!  We’ve had a great year, supporting 26 agencies with around 6000 hours of skilled IT staff, volunteers, and interns.  Together, we’ve completed hundreds of projects to help make life easier for our nonprofit partners as they serve their clients in a wide variety of missions including child care, mental health, veterans program, homelessness, leadership, social justice, gender equality, family support, and many others.  We’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with the help of your generous contributions.

In this season of giving, we’re also excited to let you know that, through the generosity of Belle Isle Craft Spirits, we have the opportunity to provide supporters with a very special THANK YOU gift!  If you’ve supported us in 2018 by:

  • Logging at least 15 volunteers hours with us  in our on-line volunteerism tracker (you can still go back and log hours you’ve contributed this year if you gotten behind on tracking),
  • Donating at least $25 (not counting event tickets; you can still make a donation now), or
  • Sponsoring an IT4Causes event or providing us free access to a conference,

then we would like to offer you a 750 ml bottle of Belle Isle Moonshine, in a custom gift bag, as a small token of our appreciation for all that you have done for IT4Causes and our nonprofit clients this year.  We have 5 different flavors available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you are meeting with Tom in person over the next week, he’ll be happy to hand you a bottle then; if not, we invite you to come to one 3 distribution events we have coming up soon:

  • Weds 12/19 from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Community Room at the Capital One Café – Short Pump – 11800 West Broad St
  • Thurs 12/20 from noon to 6 PM at Impact Makers, 3200 Rockbridge St in Scott’s Addition
  • Fri 12/21 from 3-6 PM at the Anderson residence, in Brandermill in Midlothian

We hope our supporters will stop by one of these event to catch up for a few minutes, enjoy a light snack, and grab your gift.  If you would like a bottle but are not able to make it to one of these events, please do let me know and I will do my best to try to connect with you over the holidays.  Since there is a limited quantity, I ask that you use this form to reserve your gift,

Once again, we thank you for contributing to our success this year, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

2017-18 FY Impact Statement

On September 30, 2018, IT4Causes wrapped up our 4th complete fiscal year, and we’d love to share with you some numbers and stories about the impact we’re having in our community. Our 2018 Impact Statement shows how we’ve combined donor dollars and fee-for-service from our nonprofit partners with thousands of hours of volunteer and intern time to make over $575,000 of impact in RVA.  We hope you’ll find the Impact Statement enlightening, and we thank you for your support to help us achieve these results.  We look forward to doing even more in the coming year!

Calling all Federal Work Study Students! We’re Hiring!

IT4Causes is proud to be an off-campus Federal Work Study agency with both Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond. Our past and present interns have great things to say about their experiences with us (just scroll back in time on our blogs to see).  We’re now seeking students for the 2018-19 academic year for the following positions:

 Event Management Internship – FWS

Want to help build a new tradition in RVA? IT4Causes is a local startup nonprofit agency, and we want to grow our signature annual fundraising event, Tech4All. We’re looking for someone who can help us pull off a family-friendly technology oriented event this fall, as well as run a series of fundraising happy hours throughout the year.

IT4Causes is seeking a student with a Federal Work Study grant to serve as our Event Management intern.  In this role, you’ll work with staff and volunteers to help pull together the Third Annual Tech4All technology fair and fundraiser. You’ll help contact potential sponsors, seek in-kind and monetary donations, organize partners who want to display their technical offerings in a shared space, plan food and beverage, coordinate with the facility, help with promotion, and of course, help us run day-of-event activities. With guidance of our staff and our great group of volunteers, you’ll have plenty of help, but we will be counting on you to do the legwork to make sure we build on the success of prior events so that people will want to come year after year. You’ll also help us run 4 other smaller events throughout the year. Our small staff means you’ll get to know all parts of our business, and because we serve other nonprofits, you’ll get to meet leaders at many other charities in RVA. We’ll provide a ton of networking opportunities, and you’ll work with us to build capacity in not just one agency but in many organizations around the region.

As a startup, we offer high growth potential. Expectations are an average of 10 hours per week during the school year with some flexibility to accommodate exams and breaks.

Where possible, we prefer to use the same interns for multiple semesters and through the summer.

Applicants selected for interview will be given instructions for a writing assignment to prepare for the interview to demonstrate written communications skills.

This is a Federal Work Study position. You must have an FWS grant to be considered for the role. We will select candidates to participate in interviews for this role.

IT Implementation Internship – FWS

IT4Causes is a local startup nonprofit agency. Our mission is to provide stable, secure, and sustainable information technology solutions that enable other nonprofit organizations to focus on their missions and serve their clients better, with lower total cost to their organization and the community.  We are currently seeking students with Federal Work Study grants to serve as IT Implementation Interns.

As an IT Implementation Intern, you’ll work with our Project Manager and teams of skilled IT volunteers to implement best-in-class small business IT solutions at deserving nonprofit (we like to call them “for-purpose”) agencies across RVA. You’ll leverage third party products and tools we’ve developed to build towards a strong IT strategy and infrastructure. In the process, you’ll learn a ton about real life cloud-based solutions for file management, office productivity, accounting, fundraising, and case management, as well as web site development, social media, and networks. You’ll have opportunity to work with IT professionals in all stages of their careers, and you’ll meet some true experts in their fields.

As a startup, we offer high growth potential. As a volunteer and IT service nonprofit, we offer some of the broadest networking opportunities possible. Expectations are an average of 10-15 hours per week per school semester, with flexibility to accommodate exams and breaks.
